As we recently wrote about, Beltline cocktail bar Shelter is a hub for pop-up dining in Calgary. Accordingly, its next temporary culinary affair is limited ramen engagement by Respect The Technique's Kaede Hirooka and Jonathan Chung running February 25 to 28. The Calgary Corporate Challenge hosts this lighthearted fundraiser for KidSport Calgary. It's a curling competition where humans on inner tubes replace rocks and sweeping is taken out of the equation. Register your team of four in advance and arrive between 11:30 and 11:45 a.m. on either Feb. 24, 25, 26 or 27. The top performing teams will be invited to face off in the finals on February 28. The University of Calgary’s Indigenous Strategy (ii’ taa’poh’to’p) will feature Dr. Esther Tailfeathers at this edition of its Indigenous Knowledge Public Lecture Series. Dr. Tailfeathers is the medical lead for the Population, Public and Indigenous Health Strategic Clinical Network at Alberta Health Services and has worked in Indigenous communities throughout her career. This uplifting concert is a celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s life that takes place at the tail end of Black History Month. Led by musical director Damien Sneed, the program includes music by Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder (both of whom have collaborated with Sneed), Billie Holiday, Nina Simone and others. The latest production by Handsome Alice Theatre is Between Us, running Feb. 20 (preview night) to 29 at the Vertigo Studio Theatre.
